Health Savings Accounts (HSA)

What happens to my HSA if I leave my current employer?

The short answer? Nothing! You are the owner of your HSA, so when you leave your job, that HSA sticks with you.

Of course, as with everything, there are some complications: for instance, if you are no longer enrolled in a high-deductible health plan after leaving your current employer, you won’t be able to elect any more funds to your HSA, but you should still be able to make withdrawals for qualified medical expenses.

When you leave your employer, you should receive a notice from Benepass regarding the transition of your account from your company to a personal account.
